Thank you for checking out my website and considering a purchase.

To Commission your vision

Most all of my paintings I created prior to 1990 were commissioned works.  That means I painted my client's visions.  Most of them were portraits and using photographs, capturing the essence of the person, putting them into whatever background the client preferred.  My personal "art" consisted of Polaroid transfers and emulsion-lifts which helped me to fulfill my artistic desires with the medium of photography, but I most always 'helped them along' with pencils, paint and pastels.  I was blocked when it came to a blank page to create upon, but I was filled with desire to create. . .then I discovered a "Paint your own Pottery" studio and having the shape and form to contend with instead of simply a flat surface was my release.

I will paint to please you, and I do find as much enjoyment in that as I do, painting for me.  If there is a painting you like that is sold, I'll be pleased to paint a similar one for you, but in a different size than the original work.  I believe I could reproduce most of the works, pretty truly, but would like for the commissioned work to reflect the communication between us as to what you like best in the sold work, or perhaps the style and make something all new for you.  I require a deposit of at least a third of the agreement to begin.  This may be paid with Master Card, Visa, American Express, Discover or Diners Club credit cards, or even a money order, which is the same as good ole' cash!  We'll figure out the easiest way for us both.  Thank you for allowing me to work with you to design an artwork to enhance your home or office.

An example of a commissioned vision:

OrangduckA man searching for an artist to create a special gift found my website through the local yellow pages.  He called an I asked him to e-mail me his thoughts, so I could ponder his words and play with some sketches.  The painting below is the finished product produced by our e-mail correspondence and phone conversations and agreement on one of the rough drafts.

His email: "To memorialize our conversation and provide background for the piece, the story is one of love, ending, and peaceful acceptance that results in lifelong love that takes a different turn."

The love between these two people was magical, the connection remarkable, but a point came when one could no longer go no further on that path.  The other trying desperately and everything to make her reconsider felt that if he could just provide to that one piece of information, or if he could show her things a different way, she would understand and rejoin him.  In a loving last weekend together, all the facts had been laid out, all of the opinions expressed and begging seemed to be the only thing left.  In that moment she explained to him there was no point, both of them have the same fact set, both understand those facts completely, but from the evidence presented, one sees orangutans and the other sees ducks.  So far apart that there is no need to discuss or argue anymore as it could all be handled with two simple words.

From that day when he would encounter her and they would converse, instead of begging or hoping, he would simply say "Ducks?", to which she always replied "Orangutans."

Thus, the impetus for the piece.  I want it to be one animal that is representative of both creatures so that when the viewer sees it, he/she might see a duck, or might see an orangutan.  In the background I would like their flower of choice, the White Tulip.

I imagine the final animal as being the offspring of the un-natural mating of a duck and an orangutan.  This piece should be rather small, I imagine it hanging in the bathroom over the toilet.

"Orangduck" / "Duckotang" is fondly remembered in oil on linen, 14 x 11 inches.
